MOM60 — Beginner-Friendly Premiere Production Guide V5

Save a new editable project version

If you have not already done this exact Save As, do it now:

1. Top menu: File → Save As…
2. Navigate to C:\Users\Cooper\Videos\Premiere\mom_60th_bday_09112026\00_PROJECT.
3. Name it mom_60th_bday_v003_picture_assembly.prproj.
4. Click Save.

Verify the age-seven clip's actual frame rate

If the age-seven clip is not yet inside Premiere, import only this one file temporarily:

C:\Users\Cooper\Videos\Premiere\mom_60th_bday_09112026\01_MEDIA\FINAL_PRODUCTION_SELECTS_V3\C10_FINALE_1973\03_VIDEO_SOURCES\Myrna_Dancing_Age_7_September_29_1973.mp4

1. In the Project panel, find Myrna_Dancing_Age_7_September_29_1973.mp4.
2. Right-click it → Properties.
3. Write down Video Frame Rate.
4. If it says 23.976, use 23.976 for every sequence. If it says true 24.00, use 24.00.
5. Open your sequence, then top menu Sequence → Sequence Settings…. Confirm the Timebase matches.

Set still images to 4 seconds by default

1. Top menu: Edit → Preferences → Timeline.
2. Find Still Image Default Duration.
3. Set it to 4 seconds.
4. Click OK.

This is only the starting duration. You will shorten/lengthen important stills later.

Make sure the staged final media exists

In Windows Explorer, verify this folder exists:

C:\Users\Cooper\Videos\Premiere\mom_60th_bday_09112026\01_MEDIA\FINAL_PRODUCTION_SELECTS_V3

If it does not exist or is empty, close nothing—just run this in PowerShell from the production-kit directory:

.\MOM60_FINAL_PRODUCTION_AUTOPILOT_V4\50_Run-Mom60FinalPrep.ps1

Rename your current empty sequence

1. In the Project panel, click the sequence you just created.
2. Press Enter (or right-click → Rename).
3. Name it exactly: C00_COLD_OPEN.

Give C00 enough tracks before duplicating it

1. Double-click C00_COLD_OPEN so it is open in the Timeline.
2. Right-click in the left track-header area where you see V1 / A1.
3. Choose Add Tracks….
4. Add/adjust until the Timeline visibly has V1–V4 and A1–A6.

Use these consistently:

Duplicate C00 into every chapter sequence

In the Project panel: right-click C00_COLD_OPEN → Duplicate, then rename each copy. Repeat until you have exactly:

Create simple bins so you never lose anything

At the bottom of the Project panel, click the New Bin folder icon and create:

00_ADMIN
01_SEQUENCES
02_FINAL_MEDIA
03_AUDIO
04_GFX
05_EXPORT_REFERENCE

Drag all C00–C10, M90 and M99 sequences into 01_SEQUENCES.

Import the final media tree

1. Top menu: Window → Media Browser if Media Browser is not visible.
2. Navigate to:

C:\Users\Cooper\Videos\Premiere\mom_60th_bday_09112026\01_MEDIA\FINAL_PRODUCTION_SELECTS_V3

3. Select the FINAL_PRODUCTION_SELECTS_V3 folder.
4. Right-click → Import. If Premiere asks whether to import the folder contents, choose yes.
5. In the Project panel, place the resulting imported media/bin tree inside 02_FINAL_MEDIA.

You should see chapter folders C01 through C10. Within chapters, start from 01_MAIN_STILLS. Ignore 02_RESERVE_STILLS unless you later discover a specific gap.

Import graphics and prepared audio when present

Import these into their corresponding Premiere bins:

If either path does not exist yet, skip it for now. Picture assembly does not need to wait.

How to place a still correctly

1. Open a chapter sequence (for example C02_CHILDHOOD).
2. In the Project panel, open that chapter's 01_MAIN_STILLS bin.
3. Drag one still to V1.
4. If it appears zoomed/cropped, right-click the clip in the Timeline → Set to Frame Size.
5. Most stills stay static. Only add a slow zoom if it helps the composition.

Starting durations:

Build chapters in this order

For the fastest story build, edit C02 → C03 → C04 → C05 → C06 → C07 → C08 → C09 first. Then build C01, C10, and finally C00. This keeps your attention on the life-story spine before polishing the opening/finale.

How to audition one proposed video clip

1. In the Project panel, double-click the video. It opens in the Source Monitor.
2. Use the playhead/timecode to jump near the suggested window below.
3. Play a few seconds before and after. Find the strongest readable action.
4. At your chosen beginning, press I = Mark In.
5. At your chosen ending, press O = Mark Out.
6. Drag the video picture from Source Monitor onto V1 in the chapter sequence.
7. If its natural sound matters, keep linked audio on A2/A5. If it adds nothing, unlink/mute later—do not destroy the source.
8. Remove 1–3 redundant stills nearby.

Good reasons to promote video: laughter, gesture, Mom speaking, child interaction, dancing, toast, walking/travel movement, environmental movement, a spontaneous moment.

Build C10_FINALE_1973 as its own emotional sequence

Do not use all wedding scenes. The wedding is context, not the subject.

Recommended structure:

1. 2–3 concise wedding/community excerpts only.
2. Let useful 1973 real sound be heard.
3. Move into the full age-seven dancing source.
4. Transition from moving film into the physical childhood photographs.
5. Move progressively closer: group/family → child → closest childhood portrait.
6. Hold the final childhood portrait longest.
7. Then minimal dedication: HAPPY 60TH BIRTHDAY, MOM.

Keep all 1973 footage 4:3. Right-click → Set to Frame Size. Do not crop/AI-fill the sides.

Create the clean derivative for IMG_9792(1).HEIC before final C10 lock

Use a clean crop of the actual image content—no phone/app UI. Save as:

Import the PNG and use it instead of the UI-heavy HEIC. Never overwrite the source HEIC.

Build C00_COLD_OPEN last

1. Open C10 and find the strongest 2–4 seconds of age-seven dancing.
2. Copy that tiny teaser into C00_COLD_OPEN.
3. After it, create the title on V3: ONE IN A TRILLION.
4. Optional smaller line: MYRNA — 60 YEARS.
5. End C00 quickly and enter C01. Do not reveal the entire archival moment at the start.

Import/stage the music spine

Place Music A on A3 and Music B/crossfade on A4. Use Constant Power audio transitions for basic music crossfades.

Keep real video sound when it adds emotion

For a promoted video with laughter/voice/applause/ambience:

1. Keep the linked audio.
2. Place/route important production sound onto A2 or A5.
3. Lower A3/A4 music underneath that moment instead of muting the real sound.
4. Use short audio fades at the edges so sound enters/exits naturally.

Voicemails: use only exceptional short fragments in the main film

The prepared workflow keeps M4A/MP3 pairs and selects the better working source. If a voicemail fragment strongly deepens C06 or C09, use roughly 10–20 seconds over stills while music ducks. Otherwise keep it out of the authored film and preserve it for extras/messages.

Build M90_MESSAGES separately

Import/stage Bushkill, Uncle Al, Aunt Adrianna and Jeff/family. Then:

• Uncle Al: AUDIO first, immediately followed by VIDEO.
• Aunt Adrianna: if she says “50,” record a genuine pickup of “60” and hide that repair under a cutaway/photo. Do not synthesize/clone her voice.
• Keep the complete messages out of M99 main montage unless a tiny exceptional fragment earns its place.

Nest every chapter into M99_MASTER

1. Open M99_MASTER.
2. In the Project panel, drag the sequence icons themselves—not their source media—onto V1 in this order:

If Premiere inserts the sequence as individual clips instead of one green nested block, click the Insert and overwrite sequences as nests or individual clips toggle in the Timeline toolbar and make sure nesting is enabled, then drag again.

Watch the entire picture once without stopping

Do this before color polish or fancy transitions. While watching, note only:

• repetition;
• a chapter that feels stuck;
• an image you cannot understand quickly;
• a video that should replace stills;
• an emotional beat that needs more/less time.

Target: approximately 22–24 minutes. Do not stretch toward 30 minutes merely because the ceiling allows it.

Transitions

• Use straight cuts by default.
• Use a short Cross Dissolve only when memory/emotion benefits.
• Use Dip to Black only at real structural breaks.
• Avoid novelty transitions.

Simple audio finishing

• Dialogue/voice must always beat music in intelligibility.
• Duck music manually under meaningful spoken/archival audio.
• Use the Loudness Meter for the whole finished master.
• Practical target: roughly −16 LUFS integrated and peaks around −1 dBTP.

Color and restoration

• Stay Rec.709 SDR.
• Correct exposure/white balance enough to make cuts comfortable.
• Do not erase meaningful grain, borders, scratches, print texture or archival character.
• Never crop the 1973 footage just to fill 16:9.

QR party postroll

The clean emotional master must end before the QR card.

Create a party version after the clean master is locked:

clean ending → ~2 seconds black → QR_POSTROLL_4K.png for 20–30 seconds

Before delivery, physically scan all three QR codes from a phone.

Export the archival master first

File → Export → Media.

• Format: QuickTime
• Codec/preset: Apple ProRes 422
• 3840×2160, sequence frame rate, progressive, Rec.709
• Audio: PCM, 48 kHz stereo
• Use Proxies: OFF

Export the party 4K copy

• Format: H.264

• same frame rate as sequence
• High profile
• hardware encoding if stable
• target ~45 Mb/s, max ~60 Mb/s
• AAC 48 kHz stereo, 320 kb/s
• Use Proxies OFF

Export the emergency 1080p copy

• H.264, 1920×1080

Mandatory real playback test

Play the exported file, not the Premiere timeline, through the exact party laptop + adapter/cable + screen/projector + speakers. Verify:

• start/end;
• audio level and lip sync;
• 1973 4:3 presentation;
• no missing media or black frames;
• QR codes scan;
• 4K file plays smoothly;
• 1080p backup also works.
